The fly-in Masai Mara Safari offers an exclusive game viewing experience in one of Africa’s top wildlife regions. You embark on open-sided 4×4 game drives with experienced Maasai guides in the private Ol Kinyei and Naboisho Conservancy areas, escaping the crowds.

Take a sunset game drive, stopping for sundowners in the unspoilt African bush and on the final morning venture out on a thrilling bush walk with local Maasai guides, before flying back to Nairobi.

    Masai Mara  Safari Highlights

    • 4×4 game drives in the private Ol Kinyei and Naboisho Conservancies
    • game walks with Maasai guides and sundowners in the bush
    • accommodation at an authentic tented camp in Ol Kinyei Conservancy

      Itinerary

This outstanding Fly-in Masai Mara Safari departs from the Wilson Airport in Nairobi, the capital city of Kenya. We catch a scheduled flight at 10h00, flying to the Ol Seki Airstrip near Masai Mara National Reserve.

Touching down at about 11h00, you are met by the camp's driver and transferred to the tented camp inside the exclusive Ol Kinyei Conservancy.

Entering Ol Kinyei Conservancy we enjoy our first game viewing en route to camp. The private conservancy is known for its high concentration and diversity of wildlife, so look forward to some superb sightings. Settle in at camp and tuck into a fresh lunch, before embarking on a sunset game drive, late this afternoon.

Exploring the private Ol Kinyei Conservancy with professional guides in 4x4 safari vehicles, you are immersed in the African bush from the start - experiencing the sights, sounds, and smells up close. Along the way we pause for sundowners in the untamed wilderness, taking in the scenery as the sky comes alive with glowing colors. After sunset, we make our way back to camp as the day rapidly fades into night and the nocturnal creatures begin to stir.

Back at the peaceful tented camp we have dinner and spend the rest of the evening relaxing in the authentic bush surroundings.

      > Dinner and overnight at tented camp in Ol Kinyei Conservancy

Waking up in the heart of the unspoiled African bush this morning we prepare for a full day of game viewing in the private conservancy areas neighboring Masai Mara National Reserve.

The Ol Kinyei and Naboisho conservancy areas offer a more exclusive Masai Mara safari experience than the national park, which is open to the public. We are unlikely to come across other safari vehicles out in the bush - a real treat in the Mara ecosystem, as it is a hugely popular African safari destination.

Both of these private conservancy areas of greater Masai Mara are home to abundant wildlife, including four of Africa's Big Five - lions, elephants, buffalos and leopards. The Great Wildebeest Migration and a second Wildebeest Migration, pass through the conservancies at certain times of the year. The Mara region is also renowned for its big cats, hosting healthy populations of cheetahs, leopards and lions, along with African wild cats, servals and caracals. Naboisho conservancy is inhabited by particularly large lion prides, hosting one of the highest densities of lions on the planet. Keep your eyes open for animals such as giraffes, wildebeest, zebras and a variety of antelope species, as well as rare wild dogs, jackals and bat-eared foxes.

The experienced Masai guides conducting your game drives are adept at finding the wild animals of Masai Mara and can tell you more about the incredible flora and fauna encountered.

      > Full board accommodation at camp in Ol Kinyei Conservancy

Last day in Greater Masai Mara, wake up bright and early at the tranquil camp amid the near-pristine environment of Ol Kinyei Conservancy. We set off on either a bush walk or a 4x4 game drive in Greater Masai Mara. Our local Maasai guide takes you back out into Ol Kinyei or Naboisho Conservancy, on foot or in the open-sided safari vehicle depending on conditions.

After the final game viewing adventure of our Kenya Lodge Safari, we return to the tented camp for a tasty breakfast. Then it is time to pack up and return to the Ol Seki Naboisho Airstrip, leaving the wild Ol Kinyei Conservancy behind.

At about 11h00 we board our scheduled flight to the Wilson Airport in Nairobi. Arriving back in the big city at about 12h15, our short Fly-in Masai Mara Safari comes to an end.

Is 3 days enough for Masai Mara?

While some people opt for a 2-day safari in the Masai Mara, we generally recommend 3 days or longer to fully explore the reserve and the surrounding areas.

How many days do you need for Masai Mara safari?

Days to stay in Masai Mara on a budget friendly holiday

If you are on a tight budget, plan to spend at least 3 days and 2 nights in the Mara. The two game drives that you will have on just one day of touring will give you a nice experience of the beauty of Masai Mara.

What is the closest airport to Masai Mara safari?

          Jomo Kenyatta International Airport
The nearest international airport is Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO), in Nairobi, and lots of people fly into the city when visiting Masai Mara. There are also many airstrips surrounding the reserve, but where you fly into will depend on where you are staying during your safari.

Which month is best for Masai Mara safari?

The long cool-dry season from July to October is considered by most to be the best time of year to visit Masai Mara but also costliest season too. The absence of rain means that the flora is less dense, so animals are easier to observe. Additionally, insect levels, including mosquitoes, are lower during the dry season.

Why is Masai Mara so expensive?

Prices tend to be higher during the Peak season which is normally when the Great wildebeest migration happens as this attracts large numbers of visitors to Masai Mara making it more expensive to secure rooms due to the high demand. The Peak season runs from July to October.

Is it better to go to Masai Mara or Serengeti in October?

The best time to see the Wildebeest Migration in the Masai Mara is from about August to October. August is generally considered the best time to witness the dramatic river crossings from the Serengeti into the Mara, where they’ll graze until the short rains in November propel them to head back into the Serengeti.

How much is a night at Masai Mara?

Masai Mara Tier Three Camps And Lodges. The Masai Mara Safari Tier 3 (Value Experience) rooming & safari activity rate in Kenya starts from US $750 to US $1000 per person/night sharing on average with the very few topping to around $1250 a night for an upgraded rooming and private safari experience.

How do I pay my Masai Mara park fee?

How to Pay / Mode of Payment : Payment in Cash US Dollars or Kenya Shillings is accepted at the entry gates except if you are paying for entry to the western side of the reserve, namely Mara Triangle – Mara Conservancy area, where only cashless payment is accepted ( either Visa / Mastercard or Mpesa Mobile Money).
