Tarangire National Park
Our safari guide will collect you from the lodge in Arusha for the drive to Tarangire National Park (approximately 2 hours). Tarangire, best known for its elephant families, savannah, iconic baobab trees, and seasonal swamps, is home to the life-giving Tarangire River. Animals gather at the river and giraffe, bushbuck, and hartebeest are often seen. The park is also home to buffalo, zebra and wildebeest. These animals are closely attended by a range of predators, our Panthera friends, lion and leopard. From the open roof of the truck, we will have the opportunity to absorb the landscapes and view the wildlife.
After a full day in the park, we will drive to the excellently appointed lodge (Karatu). Here we will enjoy dinner in the aesthetically delightful restaurant, relax, and spend the night in her capacious rooms.
Rise and shine! It’s an early departure for us today to the lush highlands of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and one of the seven wonders of Africa. Once we have reached the crater rim, we rumble down a steep track into the 600 m deep caldera, noting our passage through several climatic zones, to see a range of animals and birds. The caldera (collapsed volcano) is home to over 25,000 mammals ranging from the “Big Five”, lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino, leopard, to hippo, wildebeest, zebra, hyena, and more than 500 species of birds.
After an extensive game drive and a picnic lunch in the crater, we will return to Arusha arriving early in the evening.
Rest in the hotel and transfer to the airport.
Note: Hotel check-out is at 11:00 AM. In case you need a late check-out because of an evening flight, you have the option to extend your hotel stay till 6:00 PM for an extra fee.
Tanzania is an excellent safari destination for families. The country has one of the most diverse wildlife populations in Africa, and there are countries with action-packed game drives that your children might enjoy. Furthermore, many of the destinations are quite affordable for family safari holidays. The only caveat is that Tanzania falls under Africa’s malaria belt. Thus, traveling with children under six years of age is not recommended. Many safaris have age restrictions due to safety concerns.
You must present a passport that is valid for at least six months beyond the date of visa issuance to gain entry into Tanzania. The immigration officers would also require you to present a roundtrip ticket and show proof that you have enough money to cover the duration of your stay.
The peak tourist season in Tanzania is from June to September, and any of these months would be suitable to enjoy all the beauty on offer. You can read our article on the best time to visit Tanzania to learn more about what each season offers.
